BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Jan Lin emigrated from Taiwan in 1966 and
is now an American citizen. He is currently an Associate Professor
of Sociology at Occidental College. Previous to this, he taught at
Amherst College in Massachusetts and at the University of Houston.
He received a B.A. from Williams College, an M.S. from the London School
of Economics, and a Ph.D. in from the New School for Social Research in
New York. His teaching and research interests are urban and community
sociology, globalization and the sociology of the world-system, mass media
and cultural studies, race and ethnic relations, and Asian Americans.
He is the author of Reconstructing Chinatown: Ethnic Enclave, Global
Change (Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 1998). He
is involved with a number of historic preservation, planning, and community
policy projects in Northeast Los Angeles and Chinatown. He is Principal
Investigator for a three-year $400,000 grant funded by the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development for the Northeast Los Angeles Community
Outreach Partnership Center.
